Conducted sea-ice research in Arctic and Antarctic seas during a PhD position. Goals were to assess spatial and temporal variability of primary production of ice-associated plants (algae living within and underneath the ice) in relation to environmental parameters. Sea-ice primary productivity plays a key-role for ecological processes in polar areas and is expected to be very sensitive to future climatic changes, thus functioning as an early warning system of global warming.
